DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE’S REAL PROPERTY ASSESSMENT DIVISION: Qualified residents reminded to submit Circuit Breaker and Home Exemption applications

Department of Finance’s Real Property Assessment Division issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

The  Department of Finance’s Real Property Assessment Division is reminding  all homeowners eligible for the Circuit Breaker Tax Credit to submit an  application before the end of the year, Dec. 31, 2020.   The Real  Property Assessment Division home exemption application deadline is also  Dec. 31, 2020.

The  Circuit Breaker Tax Credit is available to those taxpayers who own and  occupy their property as their principal residence with a homeowner  exemption and whose real property taxes exceed 2 percent of their gross  income. To apply for this credit, homeowners must file an application.

The  Real Property Assessment Division home exemption is available to those  taxpayers who own and occupy their property as their principal residence  and have filed a State of Hawaii resident income tax return with a  reported address in the County prior to Jan. 1, 2021. Online filing is  available for the home exemption at Mauipropertytax.com under the forms  link in the Exemption Forms list.

Applications  for the Circuit Breaker Credit and all exemptions can be found on the  Real Property Tax website Mauipropertytax.com by clicking the forms  link.

Circuit  Breaker applications may also be picked up from the Treasury Real  Property Tax/Fee Collections and Tax Relief Program office in the Maui  Mall, at 70 East Kaahumanu Ave., Suite A-18, next to the Division of  Motor Vehicles and Licensing. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8  a.m. to 4 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and County holidays.
