The University of Hawaiʻi coed sailing team finished in fourth place at the Port of LA Harbor Cup, held in San Pedro, California, according to a March 8 announcement.
The regatta featured ten teams competing over three days. The event experienced a delayed start on the second day due to strong winds, but all scheduled races were completed. The Rainbow Sailors performed well during the first two days and won the fourth race. Their performance moved them from just one point out of second place into third position. However, ninth-place finishes in both the eighth and tenth races resulted in a tie for fourth place by the end of the competition.
Hawaiʻi ended with 46 total points, tying with the Navy Midshipmen. The Rainbow Sailors won the tiebreaker to secure fourth place overall. The College of Charleston led from early on and ultimately claimed the Harbor Cup title.
The University of Hawaiʻi’s Catalina 37 fleet was led by All-Conference skipper Erik Anderson and included Stella Taherian, Grady Van Ness, Arden Rathkopf, Martha Schuessler, Amanda Turner, Peyton Lieser, Everett McAvoy, and Zach Brennan.
The Rainbow Sailors are scheduled to return to competition on March 21-22 for the PCCSC South Series in San Francisco.
