The University of Hawai‘i announced on March 11 that its men’s volleyball team will wear special “Hawai‘i State Flag” jerseys during their match against UCLA on Saturday, March 14, as part of the OUTRIGGER Invitational. The unique jerseys will be auctioned to raise funds for the program’s Boost the ‘Bows Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) account.
The auction is open to everyone at no cost, with all proceeds going directly to benefit the men’s volleyball program. Bidding begins Friday, March 13 at 8:00 a.m. and ends Monday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. More information about the auction can be found at hawaiiathletics.com/MVBAuction.
The featured jersey design incorporates Ka Hae Hawai‘i—the Hawaiian state flag—which was originally created for King Kamehameha I. The flag displays eight horizontal stripes in white, red, and blue to represent the main islands of Hawai‘i and includes the British Union Jack as a symbol of historical ties between Hawai‘i and Great Britain. First introduced in 1845, it is one of the oldest flags still used in the United States.
The upcoming UH-UCLA match marks the conclusion of the three-day OUTRIGGER Invitational tournament. Although tickets for this event are officially sold out, fans may still purchase resale tickets through SeatGeek.
This initiative follows a previous jersey auction featuring a floral design two weeks ago that raised $25,000 for the men’s volleyball program.
Looking ahead, university officials hope that continued support from fans through these auctions will further strengthen resources available to student-athletes.
