University of Hawai’i women’s tennis players Allaire Berl, Makeilah Nepomuceno, and Sophie Rachor were named to the College Sports Communicators Women’s Tennis Academic All-District team, according to a May 19 announcement. The recognition honors their achievements on the court, in academics, and through community service.
This selection is significant as it highlights student-athletes who excel not only in sports but also academically and within their communities. Honorees are eligible for further recognition as finalists for the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those advancing will be voted on by College Sports Communicators members, with first-, second-, and third-team honorees announced in June.
Berl, a senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies from Westport, Massachusetts, has earned Dean’s List honors every semester at UH and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete both at Hawai’i and Kenyon College. On the court this season she posted an 8-9 singles record primarily at No. 5 singles and volunteered extensively in local community initiatives including food drives, environmental cleanups, mentoring programs for high school athletes, and health awareness campaigns.
Nepomuceno is a sophomore from Rosemead, California majoring in Travel Industry Management. She advanced as a CSC Academic All-America Finalist after earning ITA Scholar-Athlete status as a freshman and maintaining the highest GPA on her team this season. Athletically she received All-Big West Second-Team honors in doubles with partner Hannah Galindo at No. 2 doubles (10-7 overall) while also earning honorable mention recognition for her singles play.
Rachor joined UH as a graduate student after completing her undergraduate degree at Concordia Irvine. She is pursuing a master’s degree in Finance while competing primarily at No. 3 singles (5-12 record) and excelling with Grete Gull at No. 1 doubles (9-9 overall), earning them All-Big West Second Team honors.
Finalists from each district will be considered for national academic honors next month.
