University of Hawai’i quarterback Micah Alejado has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season, following his performance in a 27-7 win over Wyoming at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
Alejado, from Las Vegas, Nevada, has now received this honor seven times in his career. His first award came after last season’s regular season finale against New Mexico.
On Saturday, Alejado broke the University of Hawai’i freshman single-season record for touchdown passes by throwing his 20th and 21st touchdowns. This surpasses Timmy Chang’s previous record of 19 set during the 2000 season. Alejado completed 17 of 24 passes for 289 yards and threw touchdown passes to Cam Barfield and Jackson Harris. The pass to Harris was a 78-yard completion, marking the fourth time this season the pair have connected on a touchdown play of over 70 yards.
The University of Hawai’i football program has collected a total of 17 Mountain West player of the week awards this season—three offensive, three defensive, five special teams, and six freshmen honors—which is the most in program history. The previous record was seven awards in a single season set in 2021.
The Rainbow Warriors finished their regular season with an 8-4 record, their highest win total since 2019. The team is now waiting for a bowl game announcement.
