A multi-purpose or ABC fire extinguisher or Dry Chem fire extinguisher can put out ordinary materials (wood, paper, plastic, etc), flammable liquids (oil, grease, gasoline, etc) and is safe to use on electrical fires.

Fire extinguishers are available at most hardware/home improvement stores in Hawaii.  Having one readily available in your home could help save your home from a fire while it is still very small.  You can extinguish the fire before it grows and before fire crews can get to you.

To operate an extinguisher remember PASS:

Pull the pin.

Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.

Squeeze the handle.

Sweep the stream across the base of the flames.
