Senior Lilian Turban was named Big West Field Athlete of the Week on Mar. 24 after strong performances at the UCR Spring Classic.

Turban’s recognition comes following her victories in both the high jump and javelin events during the weekend competition. She cleared 1.79 meters (5-10.5) in the high jump and threw 48.12 meters (157-10) in the javelin, marking a personal best.

This marks Turban’s sixth career selection as Big West Field Athlete of the Week, with previous honors awarded twice each in 2022 and 2023, and once in 2025. She currently leads the Big West Conference in high jump, an event where she has won two conference titles and earned NCAA All-American status in 2023.

Her recent javelin performance also places her second within the conference for that event, while moving her into fourth place on University of Hawai’i’s all-time top ten list for javelin throws. Turban is now ranked third nationally and second in the West Region for high jump early this outdoor season, as well as fifteenth regionally for javelin.

She is noted as being “the first Big West athlete to be named field athlete of the week for a sixth time in her career since 2021 (Brooke Tjerrild, Cal Poly),” according to university officials. Turban remains “the only Hawai’i athlete to earn Big West Track or Field Athlete of the Week honors more than twice in a career.”
