On Saturday, Nov. 22, former Lahainaluna High School standout Jaysen Akahi-Vida’s current collegiate team the Whitworth Pirates lost 16-18 against the Chapman Panthers in the NCAA Division III Football Championship.
The game took place at Whitworth Pine Bowl at 12 p.m. and was the first matchup against the Chapman Panthers in the tournament.
The University of Hawaiʻi coed sailing team placed fourth at the Port of LA Harbor Cup in San Pedro. Despite challenging conditions and a tie with Navy Midshipmen, they secured their spot through a tiebreaker.
The University of Hawaiʻi women’s tennis team swept Bucknell with a decisive 7-0 victory on March 8. The Rainbow Wahine dominated both doubles and singles matches at home. The teams will meet again on March 11.
Hannah Pitts of University of Hawaiʻi has been named Big West Pitcher of the Week after leading her team to two wins over UC Davis. Pitts posted a low ERA and strong strikeout numbers during the opening conference series.
