The University of Hawai’i women’s track and field team concluded a split squad weekend with strong performances at the Battle Born Classic in Reno and the Husky Classic in Seattle. The highlight came from Isabella Kneeshaw, who set a new school record in the indoor 400 meters.
Kneeshaw broke her own program record for the third time this season, finishing the 400m in 54.37 seconds at the Battle Born Classic. This time surpasses her previous best of 55.03 seconds, making her a full second faster than any other athlete in UH history for this event. She placed fourth overall at the meet.
In addition to her performance in the 400m, Kneeshaw ran 24.03 seconds in the indoor 200m, marking the second-best time ever recorded by a UH athlete in that event. She improved on her personal best by .24 seconds and now only trails Alyssa Mae Antolin’s mark of 23.54.
Lilian Turban also made an impact for Hawai’i, achieving a personal best throw of 14.51 meters (47-7.25) in the shot put to finish fifth at the meet and move up to fifth all-time at UH for that event. Rose Forshaw improved her standing as well, throwing 14.02 meters (46-0) to remain among UH’s top ten.
Turban secured first place in the high jump at Battle Born Classic by clearing a season-best height of 1.82 meters (5-11.5). She succeeded on her final attempt at both 1.79m and 1.82m heights to claim victory. Freshman Lisa Martensson achieved a season-best jump of 1.74 meters (5-8.5), improving her ninth-best ranking on UH’s all-time list.
At the Husky Classic, Izzy Gorton led Hawai’i athletes with a near-record performance in the indoor 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:08.70—just .24 seconds short of Kelly Young’s two-decade-old school record.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete at home as they prepare for the MPSF Indoor Championships scheduled for March 1-2 in Reno.
