In our fifth series of Student Employee Highlight, Cristian shares about how his passion turned into his campus employment:

My name is Cristian and I’m majoring in Liberal Arts. I attended UHMC because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after high school. I chose going to college because it gave me direction. My future goal is to be involved in fitness in some way shape or form and I found a perfect job on campus – our fitness gym – UH MauiFit! Prior to joining as a MauiFit student employee, I was working out regularly and took advantage of our FREE UHMC student & staff membership!

So let me tell you a little bit about how regular exercise promotes a healthy heart, sleep quality, concentration, and… You can ask me directly at the gym and I’ll tell you all about the benefits & importance!

My employment here has immensely helped me grow my communication skills. A huge part of my duty is to communicate clearly and effectively to a diverse gym members including peers, supervisors, staff, and faculty. I’ve met great people here and I want to make sure that I am able to create a welcoming environment. This environment helped me build a sense of camaraderie which makes my job and coming to school enjoyable. On top of all that, I get to lift on the job, which is always a great time.

Stop by or join our gym in Pilina Building and I can do a tour of our gym and show you how to use our equipment!
