The University of Hawaiʻi women’s tennis team, ranked 48th, defeated Bucknell 7-0 on March 8 at the UH Tennis Complex.
This win marks the Rainbow Wahine’s first team sweep of the season and brings their record to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in Big West play. The match highlights the team’s strong performance as they prepare for upcoming conference contests.
In doubles play, Grete Gull and Sophie Rachor won against Mirra Manolov and Jaycie Mair with a score of 6-2. Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno also secured a victory for Hawaiʻi, nearly shutting out Tori Allen and Mariana Shulman with a score of 6-1. These wins gave Hawaiʻi the doubles point to start the match.
During singles competition, Allaire Berl and Makeilah Nepomuceno both achieved shutouts against their opponents. Berl defeated Summer Even-Esh 6-0, 6-0, while Nepomuceno beat Tori Allen by the same score. Galindo clinched the overall win for Hawaiʻi by defeating Mair 6-2, 6-0. Isabella Pampulov earned her first singles win of the season over Kathlerine Purpuro with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Gull held off Abby Platt in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), and Rachor rounded out the sweep by beating Manolov (6-3, 6-4).
Hawaiʻi is scheduled to face Bucknell again in another dual match on Wednesday, March 11 at the UH Tennis Complex.
