The University of Hawai’i men’s tennis team will play its final home match of the season against UC Davis on April 10 at the UH Tennis Complex in Honolulu. The event, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Hawaii Time, will also serve as Senior Night, with the Rainbow Warriors set to honor seniors Timothy Li and Azuma Visaya after the match.
This matchup marks an important opportunity for Hawai’i (8-8 overall, 1-2 Big West) to break a four-match losing streak. According to information provided by the university, three of those losses were against ranked teams—#64 UNLV, #44 Loyola Marymount, and #30 UC Santa Barbara—with another loss coming from Cal Poly.
The Rainbow Warriors have faced challenges in recent meetings with UC Davis (9-11 overall, 2-3 Big West), who have won the last five contests between the teams. Last season, UH lost twice to UC Davis: once at the Golden State Invitational and again in the opening round of the Big West Championship.
Several individual performances stand out this season for Hawai’i. Sophomore Adriano Dzhenev recently earned his first Big West Player of the Week award, joining teammates Visaya and Li as conference honorees this year. Visaya leads singles play with a 7-6 record at No. 1 court position. Both Kent Mueller and Dzhenev hold identical singles records at 6-4 entering this week.
In doubles action, Dzhenev and Mueller have achieved a team-best record of 8-2 in No. 3 doubles matches and remain undefeated in conference play at 2-0. The No. 2 pair of Toa Maeda and Visaya follow closely behind with a record of 7-6 after overcoming recent setbacks by winning their most recent match against UC Santa Barbara’s Dominique Rolland and Conrad Brown.
As Senior Night approaches, attention will be on how Hawai’i responds as they seek to end their losing streak while celebrating two key members concluding their collegiate careers.
