The University of Hawai’i men’s tennis team was defeated by Grand Canyon University 4-2 in a match held on Sunday at the GCU Tennis Courts in Phoenix, Arizona. The Rainbow Warriors began strongly, winning the doubles point to take an early lead.

Hawai’i secured the doubles point after victories on courts No. 2 and No. 1. Azuma Visaya and Toa Maeda earned a 6-2 win over Tristan Berard and Andreas Loizas of Grand Canyon, while Timothy Li and Kosuke Nakanishi clinched their match in a tiebreak against Daniel Jankoski and Brice Patoux, 7-6 (7-5).

In singles play, Grand Canyon won four matches to secure the overall victory. Diordan Macababbad opened with a straight-set win over Kent Mueller, followed by Patoux’s victory against Adriano Dzhenev. Timothy Li provided Hawai’i’s only singles point with a 6–2, 6–3 win over Loizas. However, Charlie Pade outlasted Maeda in three sets to give GCU another point, and Berard sealed the result for Grand Canyon by defeating Visaya in a close three-set match.

The Rainbow Warriors concluded their first road trip of the season with two wins and one loss. The team will next travel to California on March 4 to face Pacific in Stockton before participating in the Golden State Invitational.
