The University of Hawai’i men’s golf team concluded its participation in the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at Mauna Lani Resort’s North Course on Saturday, finishing with a final round score of 291. Over the three-day event, the Rainbow Warriors recorded a total score of 874 and secured 20th place in the standings.
Auburn University, ranked fifth nationally, led from start to finish and claimed its first Amer Ari title with a cumulative score of 787, which was 77 strokes under par. Texas finished second with a total of 800, followed by Arizona State (806), Texas Tech (807), and Stanford (808).
On the individual leaderboard, Auburn’s Jackson Koivun won medalist honors with a score of 191, finishing 25 under par. His teammate Cayden Pope placed second at 196.
For Hawai’i, Nathan Szpakowicz and James Whitworth were the top performers. Both tied for 90th place with scores of two over par (218). Szpakowicz shot a one-under-par 71 in the final round while Whitworth carded a 74. Dane Watanabe also posted a final-round score of 74 and ended four over par at 220 for a tie at 97th place.
Other team members included Alec Hilgers and Chris Salem, who both finished tied for 108th with totals of 224. Cameron Combado and Quinn Murray competed as individuals and finished in 120th and 121st places respectively.
The Rainbow Warriors will next compete as hosts in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate from February 12 to February 14 at Ocean Course at Hokuala. This tournament is noted as the seventh-longest collegiate golf event in the United States.
