The Hawai’i baseball team lost the final game of its Big West opening series against Cal Poly, falling 7-3 on Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium. With this result, Cal Poly completed a three-game sweep over the Rainbow Warriors to start conference play.
This marks the first time since 2024 that Hawai’i has been swept at home and the first time since 2021 in San Luis Obispo that Cal Poly has swept UH.
Cal Poly took an early lead with an unearned run in the first inning. In the second inning, Jake Redding answered for Hawai’i by hitting a three-run double off the right field wall after two batters were hit and one walked, giving the Rainbow Warriors a 3-1 advantage.
The Mustangs came back with a run in the third inning and added three more in the fourth. Cam Hoiland put Cal Poly ahead with a two-run single, followed by Ryan Tayman’s RBI double to make it 5-3.
Nate Castellon contributed an RBI single in the eighth inning, and Casey Murray Jr. hit a solo home run in the ninth to secure Cal Poly’s win.
Redding led Hawai’i’s offense by going 2-for-4 with his three-run double. He now has eight RBIs this season and is tied for the team lead with four doubles.
Hawai’i will conclude its season-opening homestand with a game against Chaminade on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
