The Hawai’i women’s track and field team began its 2026 outdoor season on March 13 with competitions at the Aztec Coastal Track Classic and the PLNU Sea Lion Invite in San Diego, California. The Rainbow Wahine participated in both events, starting Friday at the Aztec Coastal Track Classic before continuing at the PLNU Sea Lion Invite, which runs through Saturday.

This opening weekend marks an important start for the Rainbow Wahine as they aim to build on their recent successes. The full squad competed Friday at the Aztec Coastal Track Classic, while a select group of throwers took part in the PLNU Sea Lion Invite. A limited squad is scheduled to compete again Saturday at PLNU.

The Aztec Coastal Track Classic was held at the San Diego State Sports Deck, while Friday’s portion of the PLNU Sea Lion Invite took place at Chula Vista Elite Training Center and Saturday’s events are set for the PLNU Track & Field Complex. Live results for both meets are expected to be available soon.

The Rainbow Wahine recently finished second at the MPSF Championships to close out their indoor season, matching their best-ever indoor conference finish achieved previously in 2008 and again in 2024. This result also marked their fifth consecutive year finishing in the top four at the MPSF Championships. Lilian Turban continued her strong performance by winning two more individual titles at this year’s indoor championships, bringing her career total to eight across both seasons. Teammates Tara Wyllie and freshman Ava Enriquez also secured individual conference titles.

Looking ahead, Hawai’i will try to improve upon last year’s outdoor campaign when they placed fourth at the Big West Championships and sent four athletes to the NCAA First Round—their highest number of qualifiers since 2016. After this weekend’s meets, the Rainbow Wahine plan to stay on the mainland United States to compete next in the UCR Spring Classic on March 21.
