The University of Hawai’i women’s basketball team secured a 67-46 victory over UC Davis on Thursday at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine, now holding a 17-10 overall record and an 11-6 mark in Big West play, used a strong start to the fourth quarter to pull away from the Aggies, who fell to 21-8 and 14-4 in conference.
Hawai’i built a nine-point lead after three quarters before hitting their first eight shots in the final period, including four three-pointers. This scoring run helped them outscore UC Davis 25-13 in the last ten minutes, ensuring their fifth consecutive win and avenging an earlier season loss to the Aggies.
The Rainbow Wahine’s defense limited UC Davis to just 36% shooting from the field and only six successful three-point attempts out of 26. Offensively, Bailey Flavell led with 16 points and eight rebounds. Keiara Curtis and Saniyah Neverson each contributed 15 points, with Neverson making all three of her shots from beyond the arc.
UH led by two after one quarter and went on a decisive second-quarter run sparked by key three-pointers from Curtis and Izzy Forsyth. Despite a push from UC Davis late in the half, UH maintained a ten-point lead going into halftime. In the third quarter, after UC Davis narrowed the gap to four points, Hawai’i responded with a significant run that extended their advantage to as many as 24 points during the fourth quarter.
With this win, UH moves within one game of Cal State Fullerton for fourth place in the Big West standings ahead of their matchup on Saturday’s home finale. The team will also recognize seniors Forsyth, Neverson, and Imani Perez following that game.
“We are proud of our effort tonight,” said Head Coach Laura Beeman. “The players executed our plan well on both ends of the floor.”
