The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team will conclude its 11-game homestand with two nonconference games at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors, holding an 8-2 record, are set to play against Hawai’i Hilo on Wednesday, December 10, and UTEP on Saturday, December 13. Both games are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
Hawai’i has shown strong performance at home this season, winning eight out of nine games and currently riding a four-game win streak. Six of those victories have been by double digits. The matchup against Hawai’i Hilo marks the 14th regular-season meeting between the two teams, with Hawai’i leading the all-time series 13-0.
Head coach Eran Ganot commented on the team’s progress this season. His overall record stands at 182-122 in his 12th season as a head coach and 179-120 in his 11th season at Hawai’i.
The game against Hawai’i Hilo will count toward the Rainbow Warriors’ record but will be considered an exhibition for the Vulcans. Last season, Hawai’i defeated the Vulcans in an exhibition game by a score of 64-61 in Hilo.
A win over Hilo would mark Hawai’i’s best start through eleven games since the 2015-16 season when they began with a 16-2 record. The Vulcans were picked second in the PacWest preseason poll but have started their campaign with six consecutive losses, including defeats to Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade last week as league play began.
Nationally, Hawai’i ranks within the top 25 in several defensive categories: scoring defense (23rd), field goal percentage defense (22nd), and three-point field goal percentage defense (24th).
After facing UH Hilo, Hawai’i will host UTEP on December 13 before taking a break from competition until resuming Big West play on January 1 against UC Riverside.
Promotional events include “Bows and Brews” for Wednesday’s game—a $30 package offering two upper-level seats and $20 concession credit if purchased online at least two hours prior to tip-off. For Saturday’s contest presented by Raising Cane’s, rally towels will be given to the first 300 fans, and one attendee will receive a $50 prize pack from Raising Cane’s. Fans are also encouraged to participate in Mele Kalikimaka Day with Teddy Bear Toss by donating toys or stuffed animals for Toys for Tots upon entry or during halftime activities.
Tickets can be purchased online through official channels.
