The University of Hawaiʻi women’s water polo team, ranked fifth nationally, will travel to Northern California for two matches against No. 15 UC Davis and No. 4 Cal, according to a March 11 announcement. The first game is scheduled for Friday at the Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, followed by a Sunday matchup at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley.
This road trip is significant as it features key conference and nonconference opponents for the Rainbow Wahine, who are currently undefeated in Big West play this season. The team has built momentum with a series of wins against highly ranked teams.
Hawaiʻi enters the weekend with a record of 10-3 overall and 3-0 in Big West competition. The Rainbow Wahine have won their last five games, each against teams ranked in the Top 15 of the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll. They also hold a notable streak of 30 consecutive victories over Big West members, including nonconference matches, and have not lost to UC Davis since February 2008.
Agatha Weston leads Hawaiʻi with 32 goals on a .604 shooting percentage and also tops the team with 22 steals. Freshman Ariadna Temprano Xambó has contributed a team-high 44 points this season. Goalkeeper Daisy Logtens has recorded 94 saves and recently surpassed the milestone of 500 career saves during a match against Long Beach State on March 1.
In all-time series records, Hawaiʻi leads UC Davis by a margin of 32-6 but trails Cal with an all-time record of 15-38. The most recent meeting between Hawaiʻi and Cal resulted in a loss for the Rainbow Wahine earlier this year.
