The University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team will begin its 2026 season with a dual match against the University of Washington, which is currently ranked 22nd nationally. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15 at 4:00 p.m. local time and will be held at the UH Tennis Complex in Honolulu. This event marks the season opener for both teams.

During the fall season, sophomore Makeilah Nepomuceno led Hawai’i with an 11-4 singles record. In her first year, she played mainly on courts five and six, ending with a 4-5 record. Senior Allaire Berl also had a strong fall performance, finishing with an 8-4 record after posting a win last year in her only singles match at UC Riverside.

New additions to the Rainbow Wahine lineup have made notable contributions. Freshman Grete Gull from Estonia and senior transfer Sophie Rachor from Concordia Irvine advanced to the semifinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Southwest Regionals as a doubles team, earning them a place in the ITA Sectionals. Together, they achieved an 8-3 record in doubles during the fall.

Another successful doubles pair for Hawai’i has been Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno, who compiled a 10-2 record over the fall season.

Washington enters the match with two ranked singles players: #43 Reece Carter and #66 Erika Matsuda. Their top doubles team includes Carina Syrtveit and Matsuda, who are ranked 67th nationally.
