The Big West Conference has announced that the University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team’s home game against UC Santa Barbara, scheduled for Saturday, February 21, will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU. The tipoff time for the matchup at Bankoh Arena has been moved to 5 p.m. Hawaii Time.
This game is set to take place during a significant weekend for the program. The university will honor former All-American Anthony “AC” Carter by retiring his jersey, marking only the second time in program history a jersey has been retired. The evening is being promoted as Anthony “AC” Carter Night. According to the university, additional ticket offers and details about “Legends Weekend” are available online.
Hawai’i currently holds a 17-5 overall record and a 9-3 mark in Big West play, tying them with UC Irvine for first place after their recent victory over UC San Diego—extending their home winning streak to ten games. UC Santa Barbara stands just behind at 16-8 overall and 9-4 in conference play. The upcoming contest gives Hawai’i an opportunity to avenge its earlier loss to UCSB on January 17.
This will be Hawai’i’s third appearance on national television this season; their road game against UC Irvine on January 31 was also aired on ESPNU. In total, five regular-season Big West games are featured on ESPN Networks each year through a wildcard selection process made approximately ten days before each matchup.
Fans attending the event are encouraged by organizers to wear white in recognition of Anthony “AC” Carter.
