Kihei ranked 73rd in Hawaii for the percentage of households receiving food stamps in 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

There were 846 Kihei households (10.4 percent) who received food stamps. Kihei’s population was 22,749 in 2020.

The city with the largest percentage of households receiving food stamps in the state was Eden Roc, which had 175 of 325 households receiving food stamps, 43.4 percent more than Kihei. In 2020 the population of Eden Roc was 700.

The cities with the lowest percentage of households receiving food stamps in the state were Poipu and Waikele. In these cities, 0.8 percent of households received food stamps – 9.6 percent less than Kihei.
