On Tuesday, the Department of Finance Division of Motor Vehicles held the groundbreaking of the Kapa‘a Satellite DMV at the Kapa‘a Armory.

“Mahalo to our Finance Team, DMV staff, and all the partners and stakeholders who assisted us with today’s groundbreaking,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami. “Providing the same over-the-counter transactions as our Līhu‘e DMV, this satellite location will help to reduce commute time and make DMV services more convenient for our Eastside and North Shore customers.”

The scope of the $177K project includes the renovation of the armory, which will equip it with three DMV service windows.

Contracted by Shioi Construction, the Kapa‘a Satellite DMV is estimated to be open early next year. Updates will be provided to the public when the satellite location is available to customers.

Appointments for road and written tests for licenses, Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection (PMVI), and Financial Responsibilities Services (FRS) will remain at the Līhu‘e DMV. These services will not be available at the Kapa‘a Satellite DMV.
